Paper Plate Snail

For my sons Mini Beast project at nursery we made a snail using a paper plate, tissue paper and buttons, why not give it  ago at home, it was really simple to do and looks great on the nursery display.

Snail craft ideas

To make the snail we used:

  • A paper plate
  • Green card
  • Tissue paper
  • Coloured Cellophane
  • Pom poms
  • Buttons
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Glue
  • Felt pen
  • Sellotape

To start with I helped my toddler rip up bits of tissue paper and I cut up the cellophane. As always he chose a green colour scheme because “green is my FAVOURITE colour mummy because I’m a BOY!” I then gave him the pritt stick and he happily stuck on all of the small pieces.

Whilst he was busy I cut the body shape from the card and sorted out some green buttons.

My toddler then stuck on the buttons and pom poms and with my help we glued the body onto the paper plate. He then insisted that the snail needed a smile so that is the blue line you can see that travels all the way across the body. He glued on the wiggle eye and as always asked why the snail only had one eye and so I had to try and explain that we were only showing one side of the snail.

Finally I used sellotape to stick on the green pipe cleaner which I had bent in half.

My toddler was very proud of his snail and loved taking it into nursery.
